'm in a bit of a pickel, having finally been allowed to join you all for what will be greate fun. Only my PC woudn't stand up to the challange. its slightly off spec and wont run Cod4... I was wondering te obvious, would I be able to rent a pc off someone? or hobble togother something a little more powerful? i don't have anywere near the money to upgrade (i just bourt this one 2-3months ago for £100 and was well chuffed), even my moitor may be tricky (19" crt), any suggestions would be welcome!

Here is a bit of spec if this helps,

athlon xp 2800
radion x1650
1gb ram

think its prosessor and garphics that let it down!

I reckon a couple of GB of RAM, and a faster GFX card slapped in the old boy should do it. I'm sure people here will have spare parts you can borrow......

Even if it can't manage the very latest games, plenty often we get in some good Trackmania and Armagetron action, as well as Half Life DM and likely some TF2, which I know you have.

I hope you'll somehow get enough bits to get involved in everything though!

Meh, just get worms armageddon, tis the only game you need.

RAM is so ridiculously cheap nowadays, you'll be amazed at what a difference 2Gb will make, unfortunately all my Athlon chips are of an equal or lower spec to your and so I can't help in that regard, neither do I have any Graphics cards lying around at this point in time. It might be looking at some of these motherboard bundles that some firms put toegther, something with an E6600 or Q6600 and a couple of Gig shouldn't break the bank (comparatively speaking), graphics card will probably be a more expensive option, although an 8800GT delivers a lot of bank for the buck.

If you need a couple of Gig of DDR400 then I might be able to help, everything else you'll have to keep asking around or take the plunge with some new kit.

I think I will deffinatly get hold of a gb ram, I've been wanting some any way. the reason I only got this gfx card is that I can only do agp, bit of a bummer.
I've bee looking at http://www.srtest.com/referrer/srtest akind of will my pc run it? thing, my c meets min spec appart from the cpu min is pentum 4 2.8 dule core, so I'm a bit short.
If I can't run Cod4 then I may jst sit out that tourament, although i've only herd good things about it. lol. It would be great if you could help out with a monitor kf, I bet most of you can't remember how massive the crt's are lol I'm sure mine would only anoy ne one sitting oppsite!

So I shall pay soon, and at least I can join in with most stuff. and I will keep asking around for solutions, there may be a favour I can call in at my end, and if there is anyone going who can help some more I will be so appreciative!

The problem for you is your motherboard or rather the processors it supports, that range topped out at the 3200+ and so even if you maxed out you processor you'd only get a slight improvement, assuming that you have an AGP slot the best you are likely to get it something like a 6800 range, although I have heard rumours of some 8-series AGP models.

there is a 7900 AGP card.

If you are alooking for a card, get the 6600. I had it and it played TF2 and COD4 easily!!! and it is cheap now

ahh, didn't realise it was AGP, I have a 7 series AGP card you can borrow. I'll post specs when I am at home

well, I'm runing 4Gb here (and yes, I'm using All of it, not just the first 3-and-a-bit),

to contribute, I've 2Gb (4x512) PC3200, 184 pin RAM gathering dust that I don't mind loaning out, if it'll fit

ok, graphics card is an nVidia 7300 GT - 512mb DDr2

If that is better than what you have, you are welcome to borrow it

Thanks Autarkus and KF, I think the best thing for me to do is buy annother gb ram, think I can manage that. (plus I heard that xp can't make the most of more than 2gb? at least that is what i was told..) and KF I think your card is roughly on a par with mine. so thanks alot form both of you for caring! well cuffed! and the only thing I should do is look for a complete machene to borrow rent etc, as i said there may be a favour owing to me! otherwise I will do well and have a brill time with out Cod! hehe looks like there is a close heat between cod and tf2 so fingurs crossed!

KF did you say there may be a monitor knocking around? only with the size of mine and my boot space...
